Yuvraj Singh reveals what Andrew Flintoff said to him during the 2007 World T20

For an Indian cricket fan, the sight of Yuvraj Singh smashing Stuart Broad for six consecutive sixes in one over will always remain fresh. That thunderous over is easily one of the golden, most memorable periods of play in the history of Indian cricket.

But most people will also remember that before that fateful over, Yuvraj had an animated discussion with Andrew Flintoff who had just completed his over. The argument was a heated one and Yuvraj almost followed Flintoff to the edge of the circle; the altercation brought a sense of tension to the whole arena..

There have been widespread speculations about what was said between the players at that stage, with several rumours floating around. In a recent interview, Yuvraj finally came up with what was actually said in the exchange.

The conversation was along these lines:

Andrew Flintoff: Those were f***ing ridiculous shotsYuvraj Singh: F*** youAndrew Flintoff: Excuse me?Yuvraj Singh: You heard what I saidAndrew Flintoff: I will cut your throat off..Yuvraj Singh: You see this bat in my hand. You know where I am gonna hit you with this bat?

The flamboyant southpaw revealed that this conversation fired him up and he took it all out on Stuart Broad who bowled the next over. In the process, Yuvraj smashed the fastest T20 half-century off 12 balls and eventually finished with 58 off 16 balls. India plundered the Engish bowling to score 218 runs, and England fell short by 18 runs – the Yuvraj innings proving to be the difference.

Yuvraj was not done there though. He took his rich form into the match against Australia. India were the eventual champions and Yuvraj was perhaps the most pivotal player in the tournament.

The over has now become a part of Indian folklore and we all now know what exactly spurred Yuvraj on, nine years after the match. Yuvraj is currently recuperating from an injury and is part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
