During the last two years, whenever our bowlers haven’t performed and when the need for a good fifth bowler was felt, all of us fondly remembered Yuvraj Singh. Likewise, in a situation where we need 30-40 quick runs after the fall of top order batsmen, most of us exclaimed, Alas! Had Yuvraj been in there, the situation would have been entirely different. His excellent fielding warrants no comments.

Yuvraj has agreed with the opinion of MS Dhoni, that in order to achieve perfect balance, it is imperative to have a combination of both young and experienced players in Team India. Yuvraj, declaring himself fully fit, expressed his desire to play for the national team. In the meanwhile, he is ready to play in the domestic circuit. He said that it is a pleasure watching youngsters performing well and their future appears bright.

It is pertinent to add that Yuvraj had played a pivotal role for Team India in lifting the World Cup in 2011. His contribution with the bat and the ball was so vital that he was named the Player of the Tournament. He is one of the most reliable fielders, especially at cover point. He had also shouldered the responsibility of being the vice-captain of the Indian team. Overall, he has played 40 test matches and 282 ODIs. This speaks volumes about the rich experience that Yuvraj carries.

When asked about his claim for the 2015 World Cup team, he said: “The 2015 World Cup is very far. We still have an year and half for the World Cup, it remains a part of my goal and I want to take it happen. But my immediate goal is to play for India as soon as possible. For that I have to play as much cricket as I can before the Challengers”.

Yuvraj has just come back from France after undergoing fitness training along with an old teammate and friend Zaheer Kkhan. He said that he had a nice time in France, and he was able to focus on fitness.

Justifying his decision to go abroad, he said: “After recovering from cancer, I trained at the National Cricket Academy for a while. But I wanted to train away from India because there are a lot of distractions here. Just staying away from the media was of great help”.

Despite being out of the team for a long while, Yuvraj is still fairly confident about his abilities. He is willing to play domestic cricket, as well as club cricket. He is still not sure whether he would be picked for the Australia one-day series.

When asked about his rumoured appearance in the reality series “Big Boss”, he jokingly said that he himself is a big boss.

In my opinion, he is a real big boss of the game, ruling the hearts of millions of fans.
