Yuvraj Singh can't be singled out for India's World Cup loss: Rohit Sharma

Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma has expressed his dissatisfaction at the way Yuvraj Singh has been singled out as the reason to India’s World Cup T20 final loss against Sri Lanka at Dhaka last week. Coming into bat at a crucial stage of the innings, Yuvraj scored only 11 off 21 balls, thereby keeping the in-form batsman Virat Kohli, who had reached a half-century by then, out of strike, as well.

While constructive criticism would have been welcome, a section of Indian fans went over the top in pelting stones at Yuvraj’s Chandigarh residence.

Rohit, who himself found difficult to score on that particular day, said: “It was really disturbing. I can understand that we have high expectations back home but anyone can have one bad day in office. When the team wins, people say its team game. So how come when we lose, only one man is blamed?”

Stressing on how much the southpaw has added to the side in the past few years, he said: “He is the same guy who won you the World T20 in 2007 and also the 2011 World Cup. If he had not batted the way he did against Australia in 2011 World Cup quarterfinals, we could not have won the tournament.”
