Asian Team Snooker Championship 2016: India maul Pakistan 3-0 to advance to the final

Pankaj Advani continues to mesmerise with his terrific run of form at Abu Dhabi

After ICC WT20 cricket and Sultan Azlan Shah Cup hockey, India have successfully prevailed over arch-rivals Pakistan yet again, as they went head-to-head in the first semi-final of the Asian Team Snooker Championship 2016 currently being held in Abu Dhabi. With a commanding 3-0 win against Pakistan-1, the Indian team stormed into the finals of the tournament, where they will face Iran-1 on Thursday to decide the ultimate winner.

Riding on a consistent display by cueists Pankaj Advani and Aditya Mehta, India had already accomplished a massive 3-0 [88-15,67-19,52-21] rout of UAE-1 in the quarter-finals to set up their semi-final clash. Picking up right from where they had left things in the last eight, the Indian team didn’t leave an inch to the Pakistani side to settle today.

Aditya Mehta started proceedings with a 73-16 thrashing of Muhammad Asif in the first encounter of the contest. Next up, it was the 6-red champion Pankaj Advani’s turn to scintillate as he ousted Asjad Iqbal 83-25 in what turned out to be a heavily one-sided match-up.

Finally, the two aces paired up to take on the Pakistani duo in the closing doubles game which they clinched via a dominating 92-8 scoreline to seal the tie 3-0 in their favour.
