Hasan Badami of CCI registered impressive back-to-back wins to advance to the next phase, in the SPG-Park Club Open Billiards Handicap Tournament on Saturday.
Badami was on a roll, winning three matches on the trot to top Group K. He kicked off a rewarding day with a win over Ram Bhagnani of Shivaji Park Gymkhana, Chandu Kansodaria of Mandpeshwar Civic Federation, Borivali and Percy Patel of Matunga Gymkhana.
While easing past Bhagnani and Patel, Badami relied on experience to overcome a determined Kansodaria 251-209. He was ahead by a substantial 160 points at one stage in the one hour tie, aided by an early break of 76. But Kansodaria staged a brilliant recovery to narrow the margin to a 16-point deficit. Under pressure, Badami managed to fire a significant break of 40 at the end that proved decisive in an exciting finish.
Meanwhile, Rovin D’Souza, Hitesh Kotwani, Jeet Gawde, Dependra Pinkyar and Manoj Kasare registered their second wins to enhance their hopes of qualifying for the next round.
