The sequel to Outlast is finally in the works right now, announced Red Barrels. This news came Via Bloody Disgusting, who took the information from the developer during an interview. This first person horror sensation released in the late 2013 and then extended to current generation consoles earlier this year. A follow up seemed certain with its positive reception. Here is the announcement straight from the developers co-founder Philippe Morin :

“After shipping the XB1 version of Outlast, we took some time to analyze our situation and we quickly realized we had at least another horror game in us. So, yes, we are working on Outlast 2.”

There is something special in Red Barrels mind for this sequel, plans to explore “new ideas and themes”, but intends on keeping the new entry in line with the terrifying original. Red Barrel has also voiced their interest in one day returning to Mount Massive Asylum.

The Outlast 2 is in its early stage for sure but we have had no information regarding the targeted platforms or a release date. If it follows its predecessor than we will be seeing it hit PC and then consoles shortly after that.
