Steam boasts 100 million plus users and 3,700 games

Yesterday, Valve announced that its popular online platform Steam now has more than a 100 million active accounts. This is a 25 million increment from the last figure of 75 million announced in January. This new figure was revealed as part of a wider announcement of the major Steam Discovery update.

Valve also announced that, at present, Steam has more than 3,700 games in total. This is a significantly large increase, compared to only 304 titles that were added to Steam in the first nine months of the previous year. Online sources report that more than 1,300 games have been added so far in 2014.

Steam stats show that they have obtained a peak total of 7,349,866 Concurrent users, with Dota 2, Counter-strike: Global Offensive and Team Fortress 2 being the top three played games on Steam respectively. Dota 2 has had a maximum peak of 795,571 unique players in a day, followed by 235,997 for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and 89,095 for Team Fortress. Other highly popular games on Steam are Sid Meier's Civilization v, Football Manager 2014, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim etc.

Valve also announced that new features would be added to its PC digital- distribution network with something called the Steam Discovery Update. This patch has been specifically designed so as to help optimize browsing its online game store better to deal with the overflow of new releases on Steam. With this patch, Steam homepage will now make recommendations based on what a user is playing, along with what his or her friends are playing and also the users past purchases. These recommendations will be presented to the user front and centre every time he or she logs in.
