Lewis Hamilton gunning for his fourth win of the season as the season moves to Europe

Mumbai, May 6, 2015: Lewis Hamilton will be looking to claim his fourth victory of the season and further extend his lead at the top of the championship standings as Formula One returns to its European heartland for this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit de Barcelona- Catalunya.

Hamilton, the defending world champion, has won three of the opening series of four 'flyaway' races to take a commanding 27-point lead in the championship. His Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg is second with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, the only other driver apart from Hamilton to claim victory this season, a further point adrift in third.

Even as Hamilton, on course to become only the second British racer after Sir Jackie Stewart to claim three world titles, bids to stretch his legs at the top of the order, his rivals will be hoping to put the brakes on his title defence. Chief among them is Nico Rosberg. The German took the title battle with Hamilton down to the wire last season but has been comprehensively outperformed by his team-mate over the opening races this year.

The 2015 Pirelli Spanish Grand Prix marks the start of Formula One's European season and holds the potential for a shuffling of the pecking order as teams traditionally take advantage of the three-week break in the build up to the race to introduce their first major upgrades of the season.

While Mercedes is unlikely to have been standing still, Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen will be hoping their Ferrari squad will have made at least some inroads into the German marque's advantage that could help them close the gap to the two silver cars. The Maranello-based squad has emerged as Mercedes' closest challengers this season and while, the reigning champions have held the edge over their Italian rivals, Ferrari have kept Mercedes on their toes.

With long straights and a variety of corners, the 4.655 km long Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is seen as an all-rounder circuit with 66 laps of high speed action. Kimi Raikonnen holds the lap record at the Spanish circuit since 2008.
