Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which was the final race of the 2014-15 F1 season with a timing of 1:38:30.175.
Nico Rosberg started the final race of the season at the pole position, with his teammate Lewis Hamilton in the 2nd spot and Kimi Raikkonen at third. Nico Rosberg made a thundering start as Lewis Hamilton was content with battling Raikkonen for the second and third place. Fernando Alonso was forced to have a pit stop just six minutes into the race for a change of the front wing.
Pastor Maldonado retired minutes into the match after a clash with Ferrari’s Felipe Massa. Meanwhile, the front three of Rosberg, Hamilton and Raikkonen maintained their lead. Around 25 minutes into the race, Lewis Hamilton took a super-fast 2.2 seconds stop which kept him ahead of third-placed Raikkonen.
The Mercedes duo slowly worked their way to a considerable lead over Ferrari’s flag bearer, Raikkonen. However, Kimi kept coming back and maintained the pressure on second-placed Hamilton. The Brit, however, clocked two back to back quick laps to close in on Rosberg.
Rosberg took a pit stop which allowed Hamilton to go on top briefly, while he himself took the pit stop in the 42nd lap. However, his pit stop meant Rosberg took the lead and was the first one to the chequered flag with Hamilton finishing 8.271 seconds behind him. Raikkonen took the final spot on the podium, with his teammate Sebastian Vettel finishing fourth.
Lewis Hamilton won the drivers championship and Mercedes bagged the constructors championship with a total of 703 points.
