Ecclestone risking jail scentence

The CEO of the Formula One Group, Bernie Ecclestone is back into the controversy relating to corrupt German banker Gerhard Gribkowsky. The former head of BayernLB has admitted in court that he received bribes from Bernie. It is now possible that the German authorities could press charges against Ecclestone. The 81-year old says that he has ‘nothing to hide’ about the occurring.

Gribkowsky admitted that he accepted 28 million pounds in bribes from the CEO of F1. Ecclestone responded to this, by saying that the former bank Chief Risk Officer was only trying to ‘save himself’ by admitting his guilt, in order to reduce his jail sentence.

Ecclestone has no mercy for his opponent, even though the lawyers of Gribkowsky have stated that the time in prison has resulted in increased stress and illness with the former banker. “I suppose he would say that (about receiving bribes), so maybe he gets seven years instead of 14 years. The poor guy has been banged up for 18 months. He would have said anything to save himself. He was going to be locked up whatever happens.”

Ecclestone states that he would not like to go back to trial in Munich, but will go if he is requested to. “I’m bloody busy at the moment, so the last thing I need is to go back out there.”
