F1 British GP : Dismal performance by the home drivers at Silverstone

All the three British drivers Button, Hamilton and Di Resta came in for the British GP with the high hopes of their home fans but none of the drivers were to fulfill the expectations. Di Resta become the victim of miscommunication, Jenson retired because of wheel nut problem and Hamilton the only points finisher become the victim of low fuel in the concluding part of the race.

Let’s have a look how the three British drivers performed in their home race.

Force India: Paul Di Resta P15

Paul was very strong in the whole weekend and was constantly up into the top ten. In his maiden grand prix Paul Di Resta qualified at P6 which is his best qualifying performance till date. The Scotsmen in the race also drove brilliantly and was hanging in on 7th place behind Jenson Button. Paul was all set to achieve a strong result for the team but the first round of pitstops just ruined his race.

In the pit stop there was a massive miscommunication and confusion and pit crew was standing with Sutil’s tyre instead of Di Resta’s. As soon as the crew realizes their mistake they rushed in and out for Di Resta’s tyre but till them the damage was done. Di Resta was dropped to the back of the grid at 16th place after the pit stop.

This was not all in pursuit of gaining places Di Resta pushed hard and in just couple of lap he was the tail of Buemi’s Torro Rosso. Paul kept and on trying and in that he damaged his front wing and also caused puncture on Buemi’s Torro Rosso. That incident crushed Di Resta’s chances of gaining any championship points.

The home boy finished the race on P15 and a lap down to the race winner Fernando Alonso. The high hope of getting some championship points was crushed because of confusion and miscommunication.

McLaren: Jenson Button DNF

The McLaren team had an awful day and so as Jenson. Jenson was looking strong in the initial part of the race and was holding his 6th position comfortably. Everything was looking under control before the final round of pitstops. When Jenson goes out of the pit after the pit stop which was looking ok his right front wheel comes off even before he leaves the pit.

In the pitstop the man who was taking care of the right front wheel lost the wheel nut and turned around to take another nut. As he turned the hand of the mechanic moved and the man who was taking care of the jack puts it off. The lollipop man lifted his lollipop and Jenson moved out of the pit without the wheel nut on his car’s right tyre.

Because of that Jenson stopped his car immediately outside the pits and was forced to retire as there wasn’t any alternative apart from that. If that problem would not have happened Jenson could have hands on the podium. But unfortunately he retired and didn’t score any points.

McLaren: Lewis Hamilton P4

Another home driver which didn’t achieved the result which he was looking for. Hamilton didn’t have a good outing in the qualifying session and only managed 10th on the starting grid. But Hamilton had a monstrous start and was quickly up into 5th place ahead of his team mate Jenson Button.

Hamilton drove a superb race and quickly closed the gap on the race leaders. Hamilton constantly moved up in the order and was in for the podium after passing Webber for third place. But in the later part of the race Hamilton was told to save fuel in last 21 Laps Hamilton saved fuel massively. In that period Webber passed him by for third place. Massa quickly closed the gap on Hamilton and in the penultimate lap of the race Massa challenged him for 4th place. The battle goes till the final corner and Hamilton finished the race on 4th place just .024s ahead of Massa.

Hamilton finished the race on 4th place that means none of the British drivers were able to put its hands on the podium.
