Former Formula One driver Emerson Fittipaldi has said that the sport will have a Brazilian driver in the grid next season despite Felipe Massa leaving Ferrari at the end of the year. Fittipaldi also added that Massa will stay in F1 with one team or the other.

“I don’t believe we (Brazil) will have no drivers in Formula One next year. I think Massa will sign with another team,” Fittipaldi said.

The last time the sport was without a Brazilian driver was in 1970 and Fittipaldi’s fellow Brazilian Rubens Barichello said that the system in the country is to blame for the lack of drivers in the F1 grid.

“There is a big difference between the racing here and the racing over there. Today, just having talent is not enough,” said Barrichello.

Massa has been linked with a move to Lotus after the departure of Kimi Raikkonen to Ferrari. McLaren and Williams are also believed to be interested in the driver.
