Force India retire both cars at Hungarian GP

Marshals tow away Nico Hulkenberg’s car following his accident

Budapest, July 26 (IANS) It was a disappointing weekend for Force India as both their cars retired from an entertaining Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix to return home without any points here on Sunday.

The 69-lap race was won by Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel who drove a brilliant race to win on the 4.3 km twisty Hungaroring from the two Red Bulls of Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo.

Meanwhile, Force India's Nico Hulkenberg had an accident on Lap 41 resulting in a safety car period which changed the shape of the race, teammate Sergio Perez was asked to retire by his team on Lap 54.

Hulkenberg looked good for points in the race when his front wing broke and the German crashed into the tyre barrier at Turn 1. Later, Perez was asked to retire just in case to avoid any incident.

"Big shunt for Nico, who's out of the race. He is thankfully ok as he gives the marshals a thumbs-up. #HungarianGP. A real shame for Nico's race to end like this when running a strong P7, but the important thing is that he's ok after the crash #HungarianGP," Force India tweeted.

The decision to retire Perez comes after Friday when the Mexican had a massive accident during the first practice session following which the team decided not to run both cars in second practice in order to investigate the cause of the crash.

"Checo stops in the pits, his race is sadly over. An unfortunate afternoon for us. #HungarianGP. A difficult weekend for the team, but we will come back stronger. Summer break now, time to regroup & prepare the second part of the season," the team tweeted.

The next race, Belgian Grand Prix, will be held at the famous and scenic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on August 23.
