Formula 1: Red Bull looking to seal fresh engine deal with Renault

Red Bull Racing team is looking for a fresh engine deal with its current engine partner Renault. Red Bull Racing team has already revealed that they are looking to extend their engine partnership and are already close to a fresh engine contract.

Red Bull Racing team wasn’t happy with the Renault engines in the past because it lacked power when compared with the engines units of Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari. However, the reliability of the Renault engines is very good when compared with any other power unit of Formula 1. Renault engines do not produce horse power like the Mercedes engines that is the reason they are much more reliable because they produce less heat.

Red Bull Racing and Renault combined to form a good package overall and the package has delivered a constructor’s championship and driver’s championship to Red Bull Racing team last year. With the current dominance of the team in this year the team is now looking for another championship in this season.

Red Bull Racing team was looking to switch the engine supplier about two year ago and were closing in on a deal with Mercedes-Benz. However, the deals did not take place and the team used the Renault engines. As the Renault and Red Bull has combined to form a championship winning package Red Bull has said their first priority now is to revamp the engine contract with Renault.

Dietrich Mateschitz owner of Red Bull Racing Team said, “We always tried to be associated with a big manufacturer. Renault will remain our first approach for a deal for 2013 and beyond.” Red Bull Racing owner Dietrich Mateschitz also said that the team is also looking to run the Renault’s V6 Turbo engine. He said that they have received positive signs from Renault on the turbo charged units.

In the past there were speculations that the Red Bull might be developing its own engine in the future along with the Austrian company AVL. However, this option will only be utilized , when there would be no engine partner available for them.

Currently, Renault is providing engines to Red Bull racing Team, Team Lotus and Lotus Renault Team and they are looking to increase its engine suppliers to four in the future. The Williams team is the likely candidate to get Renault power at its back in the future.
