Gene Haas, the founder of Haas foundation and co-owner of the Stewart-Haas NASCAR team has been granted an entry into the 2015 FIA Formula 1 world championship, it has been revealed.

“Obviously, we’re extremely pleased to have been granted a Formula 1 licence by the FIA,” Haas confirmed in a statement.

“It’s an exciting time for me, Haas Automation and anyone who wanted to see an American team return to Formula 1.”

“Now, the really hard work begins. It’s a challenge we embrace as we work to put cars on the grid. I want to thank the FIA for this opportunity and the diligence everyone put forth to see our licence application come to fruition.”

The American F1 team tried to make its way into Formula 1 in 2010 but failed to do so on financial grounds. The assets of the company were later sold on online shopping site ebay.

Another team is expected to join Formula 1 in 2015/16 after Bernie Ecclestone’s plans to expand the current grid to 13 teams.
