Japanese Grand Prix: Practice 2 Results

Mark Webber topped the timesheets in the second practice session of the Japanese Grand Prix. Both the Red-bull cars look very quick on the long and short runs. Sebastian Vettel was third fastest in the second of the red-bulls. Lewis Hamilton finished the session second fastest while his teammate Jenson Button was seventh fastest. The Mclaren like Red-Bull have a very good long run pace and the battle for victory and for pole position is likely to be between these two teams.

Nico Hulkenberg produced a brilliant lap in his Force India to finish fourth fastest. His teammate was not so lucky as he crashed early on in the session.

Fernando Alonso was fifth fastest but still has not find the optimum balance. His teammate Felipe Massa was ninth fastest after a number of off track moments.

Romain grosjean was sixth fastest in his Lotus and had to do all the donkey work as Kimi Raikkonen’s car had a major problem with the KERS and so couldn’t run for the bulk of the session.

Michael Schumacher completed the top 10 after suffering a very heavy crash which was a carbon copy of Di Resta’s crash. The Mercedes team are struggling with overheating of rear tyres. And, Nico Rosberg simply wasn’t able to get temperature in the fronts while he cooked his rear tyres. So, the Mercedes team will have to pour over the data and find a setup which keeps both the front and rear tyres in optimum working temperature.

The second practice session witnessed a number of incidents. Paul Di Resta and Michael Schumacher lost the rear of their cars at the entry of spoon curve. Vitaly Petrov had a very scary accident at the end of the session when his rear wing completely detached. Luckily, the incident happened at turn 1 which had lot of run-off area.
