FP3 at the Monaco Grand Prix was temporarily halted after a nasty crash involving Ferrari’s Felipe Massa.

The Brazilian’s car had its steering locked on the entry of turn 1 hitting the barriers on the left before being carried into the run-off area for turn 1. The car sustained heavy damages with all four wheels dislodged, the front end of the car was smashed but the monocoque allowed Massa to get up and walk away from the incident without any harm.

The session was stalled for a period of 10 minutes for the Marshals to clear the track and prep it for the restart. It remains to be seen if Ferrari will be capable of giving Massa another car or be capable of fixing this car for the qualifying.

On the other side of the track, Force India’s Adrian Sutil was victim to another incident. The German lost control of his car, spun on the track and eventually traded paint with the barriers. While the crash was not as serious as Massa’s, it marked a poor start to the team’s weekend.

Lotus’ Romain Grosjean also crashed into the barriers in turn 1. The Frenchman seemed to have lost control over his car while positioning himself before taking the turn. He hit the barriers on the left and took turn 1 facing the other side.
