118th IFA Shield: United SC to go out all guns blazing against East Bengal

Another exciting 118th IFA Shield encounter is on the cards as United SC take on local rivals East Bengal Club at the Salt lake Stadium of Kolkata on tomorrow at 3:15pm.

United SC interim coach Anjan Nath is happy with how his team has slowly adjusted to his style of play after their early season inconsistencies. Besides picking up important wins against Busan Sun Moon 2-1 in an earlier Group I match, they will try to bag all three points against their more fancied rivals.

Moreover, winning last years IFA Shield against East Bengal has done a great deal of good to the team’s morale as they will be raring to have another go against the red-and-gold.

United SC will start in a 4-3-2-1 formation with Eric Brown and Mohammed Rafique playing behind Ranty Martins Soleye on attack. Asif K.and Lalkamal Bhowmick will once more marshal the midfield with Snehasish Chakraborty. In defence Bello Rasaq will combine with Anupam Sarkar, who might be come into the team in place of Sukhen Dey, who picked-up an injury in practice.

United SC has three points after their first match while East Bengal has four points after playing two fixtures. A win in this match can take United SC to the top of Group I, while an East Bengal victory will ensure their passage into the semifinals.

Lal Kamal Bhowmick, the creative midfield general of the purple brigade spoke after the practice session. “They have a balanced team, especially Moga and Chiddi are both good striker, but we have also an organized squad. We hope to maintain our Champions luck this year as well.”
