The 124th edition of the Durand Cup, will be played from October 1 to 15 at the Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi. The Durand Cup is India’s oldest football tournament, which also happens to be the worlds third oldest tournament after the English & Scottish FA Cup‘s.
“It is intimated that AIFF has allotted the date for 124th edition of Durand Football Tournament 2011 with effect from 01 Oct – 15 Oct 2011,” Mahesh Gill, Honorary Secretary General of the Durand Football Tournament Society said in a press release.
The Durand Football Tournament was started by Sir Mortimer Durand in 1888 at Shimla with the venue shifted to New Delhi in 1940. Since Independence East Bengal Club and Mohun Bagan AC have won 16 titles each and are joint record champions.
Last years tournament had been won for the first time by Kolkata side Chirag United, a 1-0 win against five time winners JCT from Punjab.
