The three-man shortlist for the African Footballer of the Year award has been announced. Yaya Toure, Vincent Enyeama and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made the cut.

Toure, who plays for Manchester City and Ivory Coast, won the CAF award for a third consecutive year in 2013. He has a great chance to trump Abedi Pele, as Abedi Pele is the only other man to win three in a row, if he wins the award which will be handed out on January 8.

The 31-year-old midfielder scored 20 goals to help City win the Premier League title and also lifted the League Cup.

Gabon international Aubameyang joined Borussia Dortmund in the summer and scored 13 Bundesliga goals last term to help the German side to a second-placed finish and the DFB-Pokal final.

Lille goalkeeper Enyeama, 32, took the Super Eagles to the World Cup in Brazil and helped Lille to a third placed finish in Ligue 1 last season. He is also Nigeria’s captain

The list was trimmed down to three from five with Ghana's Asamoah Gyan and Nigeria's Ahmed Musa failing to make it to the shortlist.
