WWE star Wade Barrett has warned ex-Manchester United captain Roy Keane after the Irishman questioned Wayne Rooney’s decision to get involved in the “nonsense”. The Manchester United-WWE connection doesn‘t seem to stop as now Keane has been dragged into the Rooney-Barrett fiasco.

After United’s dour 0-0 draw against PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford, Keane, who works as a football pundit for ITV, blasted Rooney’s performances and raised question marks on his involvement in the incident when Rooney slapped him when attended a wrestling event in Manchester earlier in November.

He said, “I always question certain players what are they doing off the field? I saw Wayne last week slapping a wrestler and I'm thinking 'why is he getting involved in all that nonsense?’”

Barrett hit back at the ex-Man Utd midfielder through his Twitter account and even threatened Keane that he will ‘batter him too’.

The Red Devils played their seventh 0-0 draw of 2015 and fifth of this season when they failed to score against a resolute PSV side and even attracted boos from the Old Trafford faithful. Keane was visibly not happy with the performance and questioned the attitude of United players in the match.

Keane, who is considered as one of the best midfielders to have played in the Premier League, was known to lead his teams by example. And he criticised Rooney for not doing enough for the team as a captain, as reported on Sky Sports.

“You got the impression the players were waiting for something to happen, rather than going and making it happen. Wayne [Rooney] was on about lack of composure and quality, but I think he was as guilty as anybody. He needs to step up to the plate.

Keane is not someone who holds himself back

“You look at Wayne's legacy at Old Trafford, it's absolutely fantastic, his goals record is brilliant. But now he's the captain there's more responsibility and I think he's got to do a lot more.

“It's certainly not helping him. I wouldn't begrudge him going out and enjoying himself, but if you're not at it yourself you've got to have a look and lead by example. He didn't do that tonight. He doesn't look sharp, he looks awful

“Mentally he doesn't look really sharp, physically he doesn't look in great shape. He needs to have a look at himself,” Keane said.
