AIFF confirm two international friendlies against Palestine in October

India lost to Palestine 4-2 in February 2013

Sportskeeda earlier revealed that the AIFF is in talks with Palestine for two international friendlies in October and the Indian federation confirmed the two matches on Tuesday.

AIFF were awaiting for a re-confirmation from the Palestine federation on whether they would be able to make the trip to India considering the current crisis in Gaza.

The Palestine federation have confirmed their availability with the matches expected to take place at Siliguri’s Kanchenjunga Stadium on October 6 and 9. With the Indian Super League (ISL) scheduled to start on October 12, Wim Koevermans will have both I-League and ISL players available for selection.

Palestine recently won the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup to qualify for the Asian Cup for the first time in their history. They have been placed in Group D of the 2015 Asian Cup in Australia alongside Japan, Jordan and Iraq.

The West Asian nation is currently placed 85th in the FIFA Rankings, 66 spots above India, and won 4-2 when the two nations clashed in an international friendly in Kochi last year.

The India senior national team have played just one match this year and that was a 2-2 draw with lower-ranked neighbours Bangladesh back in March in Margao.
