Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez could miss out on the initial matches of the English Premier League campaign, which sets off with a home game against Liverpool. The Chilean star who carried himself injured into the Copa America final win against Argentina has been recuperating from an ankle injury.

Sanchez tweeted saying his ankle is improving, but the ligament problem still leaves him with a race against time. He hopes to be fit for the sensational opener in the upcoming football season.

Sanchez had been coping with a ligament injury and was doubtful for the final against Argentina. Yet, he played and picked up an ankle injury, early in the 4th minute of the match. The Chilean, however, showed commitment and zeal till the end of first half of extra-time. Effectively, his act motivated his teammates who would go on to win the Copa America for the second consecutive time.

In one of his tweets, the Arsenal star has posted a zoomed image of the tackle made by the Argentinian defender Gabriel Mercado. Four days later, he posted another picture which shows no less petrifying image of his bruised ankle, although improvement is evident.

He captioned it with a message which translates as: "Your body can handle almost everything. It is your mind that you have to convince."

After the cup win, the winger-forward seems to have discovered a new high and is spending holidays in New York. Although he is bored recovering in his hotel room, he doesn’t mind not having to celebrate the way he would have imagined. As he quotes, “I gave everything I could… and it was worth it. Very happy!”

According to the Mirror, the Gunners are closely monitoring the Chile striker's recovery, but fear that he might not be available for the season opener. As a silver lining, Arsenal will be hoping to capitalise on the heightened spirit of the Best Player of the (Copa America) tournament.
