Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera believes his team are improving everyday. United have had a good run of results barring that single game against Tottenham Hotspur in the last few weeks. The Spaniard hasn’t been a regular in the first team but is happy with the way the squad is playing.

Speaking to The Guardian he said, “I think in the last two or three months we have had the feeling that we are cooking a fantastic team, Young players – a fantastic mix between them and the experienced players. I can consider myself half and half. I can help also” he said.

Louis Van Gaal has been blamed for a lack of penetration in attack. The club have only managed to score 42 goals all season but have been solid in defence. The Red Devils are still 5 points behind Arsenal in the fight for the last Champions League place but have a game in hand.

Herrera is optimistic about the team and thinks that the squad have enough creativity in attack. “They have the pace. They have the imagination, not only Anthony and Marcus, but also Jesse [Lingard] and Memphis [Depay]. They have the imagination to make a fantastic team but I don’t want to look so far ahead.”

Van Gaal has the opportunity to end United’s three-year wait for silverware, after they reached the finals of the FA Cup on Saturday, through a dramatic last minute winner from Anthony Martial. The 26-year-old hopes the club can win the oldest competition in England.

“Now we have a fantastic team, a fantastic chance to win a title and we have the chance to beat Leicester at home because we are in a good moment and we are fighting for the top four. We have to be optimistic and positive”, the midfielder said.

The United man also spoke about how the fans deserved something from the team after all their support saying, “We deserved that, Our fans deserved that. We are in the final but we have to realise that we haven’t won anything yet.”

United have a critical month ahead of them. They face Leicester City next weekend at Old Trafford, which could turn out to be the biggest game of the season. After Tottenham Hotspur’s draw with West Brom yesterday a win against the 20-time champions of England could give the Foxes their very first Premier League title.

For United, Champions League qualification is a minimum requirement for a club of their status. That, and an FA Cup would make this season a decent success for Louis Van Gaal despite how it has turned out so far.
