Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria has revealed that money problems at Paris Saint-Germain was the only hold-up in his move to France and that he would be open to playing there in future. The Argentine moved to Old Trafford in a £59.7million move from Real Madrid in the summer.

This comes in the wake of PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s claim that the player wanted to move to Paris but was deemed too expensive by the French champions. Di Maria had previously stated that Manchester United was a step up after his exit from Spain and that manager Louis van Gaal was a huge reason behind his decision.

While talking to French TV’s Telefoot, the 26-year-old appeared to be impressed by Ligue 1.

"Going to Paris would have been a good experience. I think it was a problem of money. They could not buy any players and I think that is the main reason I did not go to Paris. To play in a French club is something that would please a lot of players but today I play in the Premier League. But you never know.”

That said, he refused to rule out a move in the future.

"Could I join PSG in the future? Yes maybe. I am still young. In football, there is a lot of movement and I don't know how things will end up."

The former Benfica star also revealed thet Manchester United’s persistence was responsible for his record transfer fee move to England.

“At the time, there were a lot of clubs interested,” he recalled. “There were a lot of clubs who wanted to have me. They came and went but Manchester appeared and they never went away and because they really wanted me, I went there. That is how it happened.”

Though he admitted he was happy at United.

“It’s a different style of football here at Manchester United," he continued. "I’m very happy. I don’t have regrets about leaving Real Madrid. I think I won everything I wanted with Real: La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa Del Rey."
