Could Antoine Griezmann bring Champions League glory to Atletico?

Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann has said he would reject any advances from city rivals Real Madrid and is happy at the Vicente Calderon. The youngster has been in terrific form this season having netted 32 goals in just 53 appearances as Los Rojiblancos finished third in the points table, just three points behind champions FC Barcelona.

And asked what he would do if Zinedine Zidane were to pick up the phone and urge him to switch sides to the white half of the Spanish capital, Griezmann said, “I feel good at Atletico. First of all he'd have to call. Then I'd respond because he's a great player and a great person all the same.”

Of course, Atleti still have to contest in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid at San Siro, in what is a repeat of the final from two years ago, where Los Blancos came out 4-1 victors.

Griezmann wasn’t present at the Calderon at that time, but has become an integral part of the team in their run to the final this season scoring 7 goals, with crucial strikes in the second legs of the quarters and semis against Barcelona and Bayern Munich which decided the final outcome.

The Frenchman has struck up a fine understanding with the rest of his teammates, especially strike partner Fernando Torres and is relishing his time with Los Colchoneros. His contract at the club runs until the summer of 2020 but with the top clubs in Europe interested in his services, the forward is set to sign a new contract.

When asked about his contract developments he said, "I'm in the process of seeing about renewing my contract and we're on the right track. So I hope we can finish it.”

Quizzed about how Atletico might approach the Champions League Final, Griezmann revealed that they will be looking to stick to their game plan and not look to do anything different.

"We'll play our match as normal even if people don't like watching us too much on the TV," he said. It'll be about being strong defensively, to make efforts for each other.”

"The style of the coach is to give everything for 90 minutes and to give nothing away, to defend with 11 and attack with 11 -- that's our strength,” he concluded.

The 25-year-old started his career at Real Sociedad impressing the footballing world before moving to the red and white side of Madrid in 2014. He has become a star under Diego Simeone and with Benzema’s absence in the France squad, will be expected to lead the line and deliver for the hosts at the European Championships in June.
