Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere undergoes minor ankle surgery postponing return

Jack Wilshere had a minor ankle surgery to remove metal studs

Jack Wilshere who has been out for three months, is getting another surgery weeks after he was deemed fit enough to play. The surgery is a minor one according to Arsene Wenger.

"Jack Wilshere had a little surgery to take his two buttons (studs) off his ankle because they were irritating him, but it's a very minor procedure. He'll be out for a few days," said Wenger.

"It was irritating his ankle and they had to take it off."

Wenger, who expected to have Jack Wilshere back in his squad, will have to wait slightly longer to have him fit to play. Wilshere has not yet made an appearance for club and country after his ankle injury against Manchester United on November 22.

Wenger said the surgery was a planned one and was expected to take place at the end of the season, but due to the irritation it was causing Wilshere it was done immediately.

"No, it was planned to be done at the end of the season, but because he had an irritation with it, we decided to do it now.

“It is a few days," Wenger added.
