Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere will be fit and ‘polished’ for the World Cup in the summer, according to his manager Arsene Wenger.

Wilshere has missed a handful of games in recent weeks due to a slight fracture in his foot. He sustained the injury on international duty with England as a hard tackle from Daniel Agger left him floored. He continued to play on, though, as he felt no problem. However, upon returning to Arsenal training, their fitness staff evaluated the situation and found the injury.

Wilshere returned to training last week after posting a picture up on social media and Wenger insists that with World Cup just around the corner, Wilshere will be fit.

“He is starting to jog this week,” Wenger told reporters. “I would think he would be back in two to three weeks. I spoke to Roy Hodgson and I told him that Wilshere will be available for England. He will be just polished for England.

“I think Roy will pick him and he will go,” Wenger added. “I didn’t feel any doubt on that front, but maybe he didn’t want to show that to me. He can be the positive surprise at the World Cup.

“I hope he has stabilised now. We have seen this with Lionel Messi recently. He is the best player in the world, but being in and out is the most difficult thing to deal with.

“Jack has been in and out this year and last season but I think we have sorted out the problem and I hope from now he will always be available. Jack is a football man. He is the kind of guy who if you speak to him about something in the game he understands straight away.

“He has a natural football understanding. He watches the game and he analyses very well what is going on and on that front these players learn when they are injured.”
