Arsenal’s Theo Walcott is set to return to training by August end.

The 25-year-old forward ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in January this year when Arsenal beat Tottenham in the third round of the FA Cup. It was an injury that caused him to miss the rest of the season and also ruined his chances of playing for England at the World Cup.

Gunners’ manager Arsene Wenger said: “We expect him to be back in full training at the end of August.”

“Theo has a good basis, which is what he's working on now.”

The prognosis at the time was that he would return to training after six months but the recovery process has taken a little longer and the club have decided not to risk him at the start of the season.

However, the England international is positive that he can be back to his best soon.

In an interview on the Arsenal website, he said: “Things are looking really good and I have worked very hard for the last five months now.”

“The most important thing is getting the strength back and it has pretty much nearly healed – it is just about building up that stability and strength again.”
