Arsene Wenger backs Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal, feels he has been treated 'disrespectfully'

Wenger acknowledged the work done by Van Gaal in football

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has come out in favour of under-fire Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal and feels that the rumours surrounding the Dutch tactician’s job at the helm of the Manchester-based club are disrespectful. Van Gaal's United fell to a third straight loss in all competitions on Saturday after newly promoted Norwich City triumphed 2-1 at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman believes that LvG has given a lot to the game of football in his 30-year-long career and that speculation of him being on the brink of the sack is ‘disrespectful’.

“I do not want to go into a world of speculation. I personally have a huge respect for Louis van Gaal and I think what is going on there is disrespectful,” Wenger said.

"This guy has worked for 30 years in football and has delivered unbelievable quality of work. I think it is a bit disrespectful what is going on there.”

Not happy with Mourinho’s sacking: Wenger

The 66-year-old also had his say on the sacking of Jose Mourinho from Chelsea. He made it clear that he is not happy if someone is sacked from his job and the same way he feels for Mourinho as well.

"I think a lot has been made on that (Mourinho's departure), and I do not need to add anything.”

"I do not want anyone to lose their job, my personal feelings on that front is that it is always sad when someone loses their job."

Wenger would welcome Guardiola to the Premier League

Pep Guardiola has recently announced that he will leave Bayern Munich at the end of this season, with a number of Premier League clubs surrounding him for his signature. Wenger was not particularly happy that the announcement was made so soon, however, he welcomes the competitiveness that the Spaniard will bring to the Premier League.

"Yes, I would welcome (him) to the competition," Wenger said.

"Personally I don't like the fact that the managers come out so early for what they will do, because it's not necessarily good for their own team, nor for the speculation about the managers who are going through a little bit of a difficult patch. But after, of course.

"I think he is of course a top-quality manager, nobody would dispute that. Not so much for what he has won already, because Bayern won before, Barcelona still wins today.

“But I think about the positive attitude he has towards the game and the fact he wants his team to play football in a positive way. I respect that highly.”
