Arsene Wenger on why Arsenal couldn't sign Eden Hazard

A nominee for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, Eden Hazard had a major impact when the Blues hosted the Gunners. The Belgian broke the deadlock with a 27th-minute strike in a 2-0 win over the London rivals.

As Arsenal prepares to host Chelsea at the Emirates on Sunday, the Frenchman admitted he does not regret on pulling out of the chase for signing Eden Hazard in the summer of 2012.

Having signed for The Blues after a £32 million deal from French club Lille, Arsene Wenger said he had to pass out on the deal for the young Belgian because of financial concerns.

Described as the "Best Young Player in the World" back in February 2015 by manager Jose Mourinho, Hazard would like to go on to step in at the Emirates with the hope to finish the tie with just three points required from a remaining set of five fixtures to lead Chelsea to their first Premier League title in five years.

However, Wenger, despite coming so close to beating Chelsea over the Belgian’s signature is refusing to believe on any talks that he does not think about the deal that once looked precise to happen.

“I have no big regrets because – at the time – there was so much money involved we could not afford it and not defend it, honestly," told Arsene Wenger to the reporters. “It was not feasible for us financially,” said Wenger.
