Arsene Wenger praises Mesut Ozil’s character

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his German midfielder Mesut Ozil can be crowned the world’s best player one day.

The 25-year-old signed for a club record fee of £42.4 million from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, having a major impact on the first team already, assisting four goals in just seven Premier League games.

Arsenal haven’t lost a league game since Ozil’s arrival and are now five points clear at the top of the table.

Wenger is a big fan of his summer recruit and thinks that, one day, Ozil can claim the Ballon d’Or.

“Is he good enough to win it in the future? I think, yes,” Wenger said.

“What he brings to the team is exceptional technical quality, his vision, his absolute desire to play collectively with other players in a strong way.

“He is a player who has only one master and that is football. That means he does always what the game demands. His ego does not stand in the way of his game. All the great players have that.”

Real Madrid players were upset about Ozil’s departure as Gareth Bale arrived at the Bernabeu for a world-record fee of £86m.

Cristiano Ronaldo said at the time: “The sale of Ozil is very bad news for me. He was the player who best knew my moves in front of goal… I’m angry about Ozil leaving.”
