Luka Podolski of Arsenal takes on Liverpool's Glen Johnson during one his starts for the club.

AS Roma are reported to have shown interest in signing Lukas Podolski on loan from Arsenal to cover for Gervinho. The former Arsenal striker is scheduled to miss the start of next year, as he will be on duty for Ivory Coast in the African Nations Cup.

Podolski only a stop-gap replacement for Roma

It is reported by Evening Standard News that the Italian team wishes to get the German international as a short-term substitute for the ex-Gunner forward. Podolski has not found favor from the Arsenal management and has not featured in Arsene Wenger’s first team plans.

The 29-year-old left-footed attacker is claimed to be excess to the requirements at the North London club.

Roma is only looking for a temporary arrangement at their front and would like to get the World Cup winner on end of the season loan. The only hurdle for the Serie A club to get the Poland-born forward to Rome would be to shelve out £90,000-a-week of wages. There have also been reports of Inter Milan also showing interests in the Arsenal forward.
