England fast bowler Stuart Broad has come out and backed the former English spinner Ashley Giles to replace Andy Flower as the new head coach. Flower left England by mutual consent after an appalling tour Down Under, where they won only 1 game out of 12.

Broad said in an interview with The Sun, “Gilo(Ashley Giles) is a strong candidate for Andy’s(Flower) job. I really enjoy working with him.

“He played at the top level with England. He seems a good coach and passionate about England improving. We’ll work together in West Indies and Bangladesh and it will be a fun six weeks,” he added.

According to rumours in England, Peter Moores is the favourite to succeed Andy Flower. However, his exit in January 2009 came in a controversial manner, and many feel that he might be reluctant to take up the role again especially after things are going on so well at Lancashire.

Broad also revealed that he was taken aback by the decision to sack Flower, “Andy’s departure surprised me. He was in charge for one of England’s most successful eras. As players we must take responsibility for not playing well. Coaches are there to help but it is down to the players.”
