ISL 2015: Mumbai City FC assistant coach Oscar Bruzon leaves club on mutual consent

Anelka Mumbai City FC have announced the departure of Oscar Bruzon with immediate effect

In a shocking turn of events, Mumbai City FC have parted ways with Assistant Coach Oscar Bruzon due to a difference in footballing philosophy according to the statement made by the club earlier today. There were rumours of a possible rift between the Spaniard and Mumbai City FC marquee player cum manager Nicolas Anelka after Bruzon was absent on the Mumbai City FC bench during their 1-1 draw against the Delhi Dynamos.

The statement by club CEO Indranil Das Blah which confirmed Oscar Bruzon's departure from the club read as follows ‘The Club has decided to part ways with Assistant Coach, Oscar Bruzon with immediate effect. There have been differences in our football philosophy and both sides feel it’s best to part ways amicably. The decision is a mutual one. We thank Oscar for all his help and support and wish him all the best for future endeavors.’

Assistant Coach Oscar Bruzon was respectful of the club as he issued his goodbye to the club in a statement which read, ‘Honour means respecting my club, its players, the owners and the fans. I am proud of what I have done for the club in the little time I’ve spent here and I know that the club feels the same way. I would like to conclude by saying that it’s been an absolute honor and matter of pride being part of the Mumbai City FC family.’

Bust up with Anelka rumoured to be the reason for Bruzon departure

Assistant Coach Oscar Bruzon was mostly in charge of the team's media interactions and during those gave a hint that all is not well between him and Nicolas Anelka. After Mumbai City FC's loss to Chennaiyin FC in Mumbai last month, Assistant Coach Oscar Bruzon refused to comment on Nicolas Anelka's absence from the squad saying he doesn’t like to talk about players who doesn’t want to play.

“I prefer speaking about players who are willing to play. I don’t talk about players who don’t want to play,” commented Bruzon giving the first indication of a bust up. Bruzon was unusually defensive while speaking about the atmosphere in the Mumbai City FC camp ahead of the game against Delhi Dynamos adding doubts whether all was well in the Mumbai City FC camp.

The doubts were fuelled into speculation when Bruzon was absent in the dugout for that game.

Oscar Bruzon had been on his job for Mumbai City FC all year long after he was in regular attendance for all the I-League games in Mumbai throughout the year possibly scouting the top talents in the country.There hasn’t been any notification from the club over a possible replacement for Oscar Bruzon, but with the season more than halfway through, Mumbai City FC may promote second assistant coach Alex Ambrose to that position.
