Out of all the great European teams Barcelona have had the most to brag about recently due to the fact that they completed the enviable treble last season, with the Champions League final victory against Juventus the master jewel in the crown. Barcelona’s jersey, true to the club’s slogan “Mes Que Un Club”, has always been a symbol of pride to the Catalan people who view themselves as more than just a part of the great Spanish kingdom. That said, Barca fans have a lot to celebrate this campaign as their beloved club’s jersey has received a major overhaul. With that in mind let’s have a look at Barcelona’s 2015-2016 kits designed by long term sponsor Nike.
The Home Kit
The clubs iconic blue and red home kit has gotten a major tweak this season and the distinctive red lines are horizontal this season instead of the vertical ones we’ve seen over the years. The horizontal lines give a whole new look to the jersey, almost as if it’s trying to get in sync with Luis Enrique’s brand of football which is more ruthless than ever before and has now firmly become a part of the club’s identity. The shorts have also been coloured in blood read, which is a throwback to the one worn by Ronaldinho & Co back in ’05. All in all this new jersey manages to bring out the clubs new identity perfectly.
The Away Kit
The away kit reverts back to the 2013-2014 design, and I must say it’s been greatly missed. The front is of course a beautiful yellow, while the back consists of horizontal red stripes, which is a nod to another symbol of Barcelona’s pride – Catalonia. The jersey, paired with the blue shorts and yellow socks is extremely attractive and will undoubtedly sell by the truckloads this season. The tribute to the Catalan flag is also another factor that will push sales. Hats off to Nike for this one.
The Third Kit
The third kit isn’t as groundbreaking as its peers and is simply the Barcelona version of Nike’s standard third kit design, but that shouldn’t make fans hesitant to buy it. The kit comes in a rather attractive neon blue with a dash of black on the lower sleeves, giving it a somewhat futuristic look. The colour also compliments Barcelona’s flamboyance on the field which is why fans will take to it in no time.
As usual all three kits come integrated with Nike’s Dri-Fit material which acts as a sweat absorber as well as a cooling agent. Needless to say the kits will do extremely well this season not less because of their cutting edge design, which was a stroke of genius by the good folks at Nike. The home kit for one is certainly one of the best amongst all the other top European clubs at the moment. Indian fans can pick up their own version at the nearest Nike store. So if you’ve wanted to purchase one of these, don’t hesitate as there’s nothing better than kitting up in the uniform of one of the world’s most prestigious clubs and sporting your colours proudly.
