Manchester United and Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the situation of Cesc Fabregas after a recent poll suggested 50% of Barcelona fans would prefer to see him leave the club at the end of the season, according to the Express.

Fabregas is in his third season at the club after returning ‘home’ after making his name at Arsenal, but the fans have struggled to take to him after feeling that he betrayed his hometown club by opting to leave for London in the first place.

Barcelona are under a transfer embargo imposed by UEFA for their handling of transfers of youngsters and unlikely to entertain any attempts to purchase any of their first team squad in the summer, should their appeal against the ruling fall upon deaf ears.

Manchester United had made moves to sign Fabregas last summer as they struggled to attract world-class midfielders to Old Trafford, with David Moyes receiving no encouragement from either player or Barcelona, as he eventually settled on signing Marouane Fellaini from former club Everton.

That move has not worked out so far however, and Moyes is believed to be targeting midfielders again this summer and could try to use the lack of support from the fan base to convince Fabregas that his future lies away from Camp Nou.

Former club Arsenal are also keen on bringing him back to the Emirates and Wenger is hoping he can use his relationship with the Spanish midfielder to convince him to return to the club.
