Not giving up just yet

Barcelona defender, Gerard Pique, has insisted that despite being 6 points behind eternal rivals, Real Madrid, Barcelona still have a chance to win La Liga as the league is far from over.

After blowing away a one goal lead against Real Madrid, thanks to Sergio Ramos header in the dying minutes of the game, the Catalans failed in their endeavor to cut the 6 points deficit to just three, but the former Manchester United defender believes that his club are still in the race and should stay calm in order to turn the tide.

"What has happened is not what you want, but in general I think we have to stay calm," he told reporters. "If we compete like today and play as we have done for a long time, we can turn this around.”

Pique then reminded the reporters about how they were in a similar position when Luis Enrique first arrived at the club. Indeed, back then, the Blaugranas turned the waves in their favour to ultimately win a treble—becoming the only club ever to win two trebles in the history.

"The first year under Luis Enrique we were in a similar situation and we turned it around. We have already gone to difficult places that they still have to travel to.

"There is a lot of time left."

Despite the fact that many fans have voiced their concerns about the club’s current form, Gerard Pique believes that with so much football yet to come, Barca will eventually reach top form—where they become an unstoppable force.

"Let them be encouraged," he added. "That there is a lot of LaLiga [left], we have many players that, at their highest level, are unstoppable and we will get to that level."

Gerard Pique might be very optimistic about his side’s chances, but the fact remains that the Galacticos are frontrunners to win the league title given that, using history as a witness, most winter champions with a lead of 6 points have gone on to win the title come May.

However, during Fabio Capello’s stint at Real Madrid, the Blancos managed to overcome the same amount of points shortage and that, too, from the month of March. Hence, Lionel Messi and Co. could use that as an inspiration and keep moving forward.

Real Madrid have a tougher set of fixtures than Barcelona and it will be interesting to see how the two cope up after the winter break.
