La Liga club Barcelona have signed Valencia defender Jeremy Mathieu on a long term deal.
The left back cost the Catalan club €20 million and he has signed a contract that will see him at the club till 2018 with an option to extend it by a year. Barcelona have also set a buy-out clause in his contract that will be €50 million.
Known to be a versatile defender who can also play as a centre back, the tall 30-year-old Frenchman is good with the ball at his feet and known for his positioning. He is also strong in the air and of late has played more as a centre back than a full back.
Mathieu has represented France at various youth levels but has never really cemented a place in the senior squad. He began his career at French club FC Sochaux before moving toToulouse FC and finally joining Valencia in 2009.
