Barcelona transfer news: Cristian Tello joins Fiorentina on loan

Cristian Tello is on the move to Fiorentina from FC Barcelona after a mutual agreement between the two clubs. The 25-year old winger had joined Fiorentina earlier this year on a six-month deal and will remain at the club for the current season. Prior to his stint with the Italian club, Tello represented FC Porto in 57 matches and scoring 10 goals with the Portuguese team on a two-year loan from the Catalan giants. Tello was also an instrumental member of the Spanish Under-21 squad which won the 2013 European Championships.

The statement as per the official site of FC Barcelona said, “FC Barcelona and Fiorentina have arrived at an agreement for the loan of Cristian Tello for the 2016/17 season. The Italian club contractually agrees that the participation of the player remains active during the loan.”

It is also learnt as per the reports of the “Marca” that the Camp-Nou based side have ensured that Tello will be given the opportunity to prove his worth on the pitch with regular playing time on the pitch. If the mentioned conditions fail, Fiorentina has agreed to compensate Barcelona financially. It is also learnt that the Catalan giants will be paid €500,000 in the beginning on the loan.

During his stay at Porto,he was a very important player for coach Julen Lopetegui, and played 33 games in his first season over there scoring 8 goals. But he failed to perform in the following season, which saw the coach being sacked and Tello lose his first XI spot. Fiorentina even have the opportunity to buy him at the end of the season for an amount of €7.5 million.

Barcelona have been pretty active in the transfer market so far this season, having signed Samuel Umtiti from Olympique Lyon, who will certainly be one of the defenders to keep an eye on this season. They have also brought back midfielder Denis Suarez as per the buyback clause from Villarreal while Lucas Digne and Andre Gomes were roped in by the defending La Liga Champions from Paris Saint-Germain and Valencia respectively.
