Bayern Munich and Manchester United have agreed terms over the transfer of Bastian Schweinsteiger

Bastian Schweinsteiger will play for Manchester United next season

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge today confirmed that Bastian Schweinsteiger would be leaving Bayern Munich for Manchester United in this transfer window. According to Rummenigge, an agreement has been reached between the two clubs over the transfer

Bastian Schweinsteiger’s association with Bayern Munich began way back in 1998 and since his debut for in 2002, he has made a further 500 appearances for them scoring 67 goals in the process. He started his career as a winger but later converted into a midfielder for both club and country.

He has had a very successful career for the Bavarian club winning eight league titles and seven German Cups in his 13 years with the club. He was an integral member of the Bayern team that won the treble in 2013 and was also a part of German National team who won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said on Thursday that the midfielder was “flattered” by the interest shown by United. Bayern boss Pep Guardiola also said the player’s future completely depended on him and it looks like Schweinsteiger has made his decision.

Schweinsteiger will be a major boost to Manchester United's squad

Schweinsteiger is an ideal signing for Manchester United as they have only Michael Carrick, Daley Blind and Ander Herrera on their books as midfielders for the upcoming campaign. Marouane Fellaini has been used by Van Gaal in a more attacking role last season. With United in the UEFA Champions League this season, Schweinsteiger’s experience will be a welcome sight for manager Louis van Gaal.

The German National team captain has already played under the mercurial Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal, before in 2009 when the Dutchman was the boss at the Allianz arena.

With the announcement Schweinsteiger becomes United’s second signing of the season after Memphis Depay and will become the first German player to play for Manchester United in the club’s 137-year-old history.

Bayern made the announcement in a press conference where Rummenigge said, “Bastian wants to do something new at the end of his career. He asked that we meet his wishes.”

“My colleagues at Manchester United have been in touch. We've reached an agreement over a transfer. We say goodbye on great terms,” he added
