Report: Bayern Munich bid for Arsenal's Mesut Ozil in the summer

Bayern Munich reportedly put in a bid for Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil in the summer.

According to a report in El Confidencial, Bayern Munich tried to sign Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil in the summer transfer window.

It is known that Pep Guardiola tried to sign the German playmaker during his time at Barcelona, but Real Madrid stepped in with a €15m offer and signed him from Werder Bremen.

The report says that Arsene Wenger refused to sell his star signing, eve though he had a mediocre first season at the Emirates.

The report also goes on to suggest that Arsenal had the chance to sign Fabregas but refused to take advantage of the first refusal clause to sign their ex-player.

The Spaniard eventually made a surprising £27m move to Chelsea and has so far lit up the Premier League with seven assists in seven games.

Apparently, it was ‘Wenger’s pride’ that prevented him from selling Ozil and signing Fabregas. The French manager had made it known that there was no room for Fabregas in the squad with Ozil already in the ranks.

When asked whether he regretted not signing Fabregas, he said he had no regrets and admitted: “My only regret is that he left us in the first place.”

Cesc Fabregas played for Arsenal till 2011 when he made a switch to his boyhood club Barcelona.

Fabregas is a great player but he left us: Wenger

Wenger said of Fabregas ahead of the Chelsea game: “I think Fabregas will have a great career because he’s a great player. When he looks back he will find that Arsenal and myself had a very positive impact on his career. Nobody can dispute that.

“I hope that, for every single person in the world, they have the feeling that we had a positive influence and that he had a great career. That is all you can do.

“I wish him well – he’s a great player, and a person and player I love. Once he left us, he left us. We are all professionals and we have to accept that.”
