German giants and European heavyweights Bayern Munich confirmed they secured the services of Shakhtar Donetsk and Brazilian attacking midfielder Douglas Costa. The fee agreed between the clubs is 30 million euros and he will be wearing No. 11, previously worn by the winger Xherdan Shaqiri.

Shakhtar Donetsk issued a press release on Wednesday that read: “Shakhtar Donetsk and Bayern Munich have agreed all the necessary formalities regarding Douglas Costa’s move to the German club. The transfer fee for the Brazilian midfielder is €30m.

“Shakhtar thanks Douglas for the time spent in the team and wishes him every success with the new club.”

Bayern Munich confirmed the news on their website, and according to their press release Bayern’s Executive Board Member Jan-Chrisitan-Dreesen said:

“We are delighted we’ve been able to sign Douglas Costa.

“The five-year contract until 2020 indicates that we are planning for the future of FC Bayern with this striker. We now hope he settles quickly here in Munich and at FC Bayern and trust he will strengthen our team as we all desire.”

Dream come true for Costa

After penning the 5-year deal, the midfielder added: “A dream has come true for me today, I’m proud to become a player for Bayern, following in the footsteps of so many magnificent Brazilian players. I’m looking forward to playing for this magnificent team and will do everything I can to fulfil the expectations placed in me.”

Having previously been linked with the likes of Chelsea in the English Premier League, all clubs who were considering signing the Brazilian will now have to re-adjust their scopes.

Bayern Munich Sporting Director Mathias Sammer praised the Brazilian midfielder in the press release, he commented: “Douglas Costa will be good for our team, he has great technical ability, a powerful left foot, he is very agile and extremely quick.

“After playing in Brazil and Ukraine, Douglas Costa has decided to take the next step in his career in the Bundesliga and at FC Bayern Munich. We will support him in every respect as he does so.”
