Thiago Alcantara has been ruled out again because of an injury he suffered in training on Wednesday. The Bayern Munich midfielder was scheduled to return to action but now again will be sidelined due to a ligament tear in the knee.

The son of former Brazil midfielder Mazinho, Thiago has been out of the Bayern Munich team since being injured in the final months of last season. His presence would have helped Bayern Munich as they enter a crucial part of their season. The Spaniard has also missed out on action for the national team in the same duration, and he would definitely have been one of the names to get into the team following Xavi and Xabi Alonso’s retirement.

Out of action for long

Bayern Munich confirmed in a statement that Thiago may face "a lengthy absence". The ligament tear will require a surgery in the knee which will make him miss out till next year. The 23-year-old played only 16 Bundesliga games after moving to the German champions Bayern Munich from Barcelona.

The injury to the Spanish international will be a set back to the Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola, who is aiming for a Champion League win this season.
