Surprising? Not really. Manchester United wanted to tie down their superstar striker to a deal last year, but Rooney kept on delaying it but finally signed the deal yesterday.

The 28 year-old attacker signed a new four-year extension at Old Trafford worth £300,000 a week that will keep him at the club till June 2019.

And that is not it, the England striker has endorsement deals with Nike (he is the face of their T90 Laser IV boots), Nokia, Ford and Asda. He has appeared on six straight UK-version covers of Electronic Arts’ FIFA series from FIFA 06 to FIFA 12!

With his current wages, Rooney now goes toe-to-toe with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi who earn £15 million and £13.5 million per year respectively after taxes.

An obviously ecstatic Wayne Rooney told the club’s website, “I’m very happy to have signed a new long-term contract with Manchester United,” of course you are Wayne!
