According to former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, the club wanted to get rid of him after only one season. The La Liga giants had hired the Italian manager as Jose Mourinho’s replacement after his successful spell at Paris Saint-Germain and he won them their 10th Champions League title in his very first season.

The 56-year-old manager is currently on a break after he was sacked by Real Madrid this summer and is not in a hurry to get back to work. However, he did mention that AC Milan wanted him back at the club after Filippo Inzaghi failed to make a mark. Ancelotti has won two Champions League titles with the Milan club (2003 and 2007) and one Serie A title.

“It’s true that Milan had offered me the bench this summer, but I preferred not to accept so I could relax for a while,” Ancelotti said, according to Football Italia.

“Now I’m thinking of having a break and going on vacation before starting up again next season.”

When talking about his tenure at Real Madrid, Ancelotti said: “The truth is they probably wanted to fire me after one season and they would’ve done if I hadn’t won the Champions League. I knew full well that if I didn’t win something again, they would replace me.”

Ancelotti also clarified that he left PSG only because of his own volition and not because he had an offer from Los Blancos.

“I didn’t leave PSG because of Real Madrid,” Ancelotti explained. “I left because I thought the initial project had changed and it had become purely about results.

“In February, I had told the club that I was going to leave. It’s not true that I wanted to go because I had an offer from Real Madrid. That came later.”

Ancelotti wants Premier League return

The Italian boss has worked with Chelsea before and helped them win a domestic double in the 2009/10 season when the Blues won the EPL title and the FA Cup. But he was soon sacked the next season when they finished runners-up to Manchester United in the league and failed to get past the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Now, he has revealed that he would like one more shot at managing a club in the Premier League because he enjoyed his last stint, and not just because of the football.

“I would like to go back to the Premier League. It is the ideal environment not for football, but for the 'game' around football,” he said, according to Sky Sports.

“You can work there with the right amount of pressure and with the necessary detachment and calm. Before I retire, I'd like to have another experience in England.”

When asked if he would take up a job immediately, Ancelotti said he would take a break at least until the end of 2015.

“The vacation continues at least until the end of the year, then I'll start again,” Ancelotti said.

“Where will I go? Where they call me. I will talk, evaluate and then decide. Up until a few weeks ago I was scared someone would call, but now the return is getting closer.

“Unless something strange happens. I am ready to get back on the bike in January.”
