Carlo Ancelotti: Sterling is not in Real Madrid's plans

Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has turned down speculations of a move for Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling.

To think of another striker is extremely difficult according to Ancelotti

The England international burst onto the scene last season as he formed a lethal trio with Luis Suarez and compatriot Daniel Sturridge. They were highly responsible for Liverpool’s terrific outing in the Premier League which also enhanced his position in the national squad under Roy Hodgson.

Liverpool are yet to secure Sterling’s signature on a new deal and there have been talks of Ancelotti landing him at the Bernabeu. But the former Milan boss has turned down those suggestions, reminding everyone about the attacking quality his team possesses acknowledging the 19-year-old’s talents at the same time.

Ancelotti said, “Sterling is a player of great quality, certainly one of the best in Europe – but we already have extraordinary talent here.

“To think of another striker for the Real Madrid attack is really extremely difficult. It’s clear that Sterling is not in our plans,” he added.

Real will visit the Anfield Arena on the 22nd of October to play their Champions League group fixture against Liverpool. Sterling will have an important role to play for the Merseysiders but Ancelotti has insisted that his attention will be on the whole unit rather than an individual as he has no special plans to stop the English youngster.

Ancelotti reveals he tried to pair Steven Gerrard with Andrea Pirlo

Cristiano Ronaldo has been in scintillating form since the start of the season and he returns to enemy territories from his Manchester United days along with a host of sensational players like Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema.

Ancelotti also spoke about Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard whom he considers to be world class. The Italian admitted that he had tried to pair the midfielder with Andrea Pirlo on two occasions but failed to.

“We had sounded him out but Gerrard’s bond with Liverpool was unbreakable. I don’t remember exactly what year it was but we did try. Of course, I wanted to pair him up with Pirlo, it was a fantastic combination. Putting Gerrard in midfield with Pirlo. It would have been fantastic.”
