Carlos Dunga introduced as the new coach of Brazilian national football team in a press conference

Dunga has been appointed as the new coach of Brazil in what will be his second stint with the national team. The 1994 winning captain has already had a four year stint as Brazil’s coach, which came to an end after Brazil was eliminated at the quarterfinal stage of 2010 World Cup.

Luiz Felipe Scolari was earlier sacked after Brazil faced a humiliating 7-1 defeat against Germany in semi-finals of the World Cup in Brazil.

After being appointed, the former Brazilian defensive midfielder said, “I am immensely happy – thank you for your confidence in me.”

Dunga has an uphill task to recover from Brazil’s World Cup defeat on home soil but feels he is ready for the challenge.

“The fans are very down right now but they are right behind the team,” Dunga continued.

“I am not here to sell a dream, we must get down to work.”

CFB president Jose Maria Marin believes that Dunga’s records speaks for volumes and the 91 caps showed the esteem in he which was held and the respect he endured during his tenure.

“He was world champion, captain of a world champion side. He has what it takes to lead the Brazil team. The numbers show he absolutely has the ability to take charge,” Marin added.

In his previous stint as Brazil coach in 2006, Dunga had succeeded in steering Brazil to win the Copa America title and FIFA Confederations Cup after replacing Carlos Alberto Parreira.
