Carlos Tevez, the 32-year-old former Juventus player is considering on retiring from football by the end of 2016. The Argentine international, currently playing for Boca Juniors, was recently handed a three-match ban for dissent at an official.
The Argentine, though, was of the belief that it was not his on-field behaviour that resulted in a three-match ban.
Tevez has been pondering retirement ever since his team was ousted from the Copa Libertadores semi-final by Independiente del Valle.
Speaking to Fox Sports Radio, the Argentine stated, “The penalty was given to me by journalists and not the committee’. He further went on to say, “There is a possibility I could quit at the end of the year. I'm thinking about it.”
In spite of the issues surrounding Argentine football, the 32-year-old expressed his happiness at wearing the Boca shirt and turning up to play at the La Bombonera. He continued in the same vein saying that he would have to discuss the issue of retirement with his family before he made his final decision.
Tevez, who has represented the Argentina national side 76 times, further went on to state that he doesn’t expect the current national coach, Edgardo Bauza, to consider him for the national side because of the drop in his performances.
Frustrated at how things are being run
The Argentine has grown frustrated at the way Argentinean football is being run, citing the short-term approach to fixture planning as one of the reasons. He also blamed the media for heaping extra pressure on Boca.
Tevez has often been criticised since his return to his homeland.
After an illustrious career in Europe – where he represented both the Manchester clubs as well as West Ham United in the Premier League and Italian club Juventus, with whom he won the domestic double, Tevez rejoined his boyhood club, Boca Juniors.
Tevez, also known as “El Apache” made his debut for Boca Juniors as a teenager, in the 2001-02 season. He made 75 appearances for them scoring 26 goals before moving to Brazilian side, Corinthians.
He shot to the spotlight when he and his compatriot Javier Mascherano, moved to West Ham United from Corinthians.
The transfer came under the scanner of the FA because of the third party ownership issue, which led to the FA banning third party ownership. Irrespective of the controversy surrounding his transfer, Tevez went on to win the “Hammers Player of the Year”, as he saved West Ham from relegation.
