Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa backed to do even better for Chelsea this season

Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa were instrumental in Chelsea’s 2014/15 league title triumph

Looking back at our title winning season and alongside Eden Hazard, you have to state that Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa were instrumental in our success. After an amazing season for both, they have been backed to do even better for Chelsea this coming season!

No one could have imagined the impact Diego Costa would have on Chelsea and the Premier League. We had sat and watched him from afar in La Liga and wondered if he would be able to cope with the pace and power of our game here.

We shouldn't have wondered as he was quite simply a revelation. It was just a shame that injury and suspension forced him to miss a few games and a run at the Premier League Golden Boot which was eventually won by Sergio Aguero.

As for Cesc Fabregas? We knew he liked and loved our game and had seen the impact he had for Arsenal as their captain. We had little doubt over his ability to adapt again, but it was almost like he had never been away with quite simply the pass of the season on the opening weekend against Burnley to set up Andre Schurrle.

From there, Fabregas went from strength to strength and set a record for the most assists in the Premier League. His link up with Diego Costa was an integral part of our play and became a real feature week in, week out.

Both Fabregas and Costa made huge contributions to our Premier League title winning season and League Cup victory and Cesar Azpilicueta has backed them to go one better this time around.

“We know their quality and despite what they did last season, they want to do better. They are competitive and have a winning mentality. They will not just settle for what they did before and will want to do more.

“The season they did before was amazing, but they are looking to go even further than they did before for Chelsea. That should worry the other teams. What they do is key for us.

“The amount of goals and assists these two players give us make the difference. The numbers they did in their first season was amazing and can be again.”

Now it's common to give foreign players time to adapt to our league. For example, look at Hazard now to the player that first came here. He was already a star in the French League and had everything to offer the Premier League but to see him as a the complete player now really is something.

As each season passes by working with Jose Mourinho and being used to the Premier League, to have the experience of the League and to know what you are going to be faced with week in, week out is huge and I agree 100% with Azpilicueta.

Fabregas will feel even more comfortable than he does already as the focal point of our possession of the ball. Players are in a place now when they know what he can do with the ball and they know by making those runs, he will put that ball on a sixpence. That's the difference to this time round a year ago.

If anything, I fully expect Fabregas to become even more influential with his goals this coming season, in addition to his assists. If you can get more goals from him AND more assists, he would become almost unstoppable.

Costa Fabregas
Apart from Costa’s hamstring injuries, he was key to bringing the title to Stamford Bridge

As for Diego Costa? What can you say? The one negative from his part last season was that hamstring of his and what seems like the constant problems he has with them. According to Oscar, Costa has really been focusing on his hamstrings during the summer and wants to be able to last the whole season for Jose Mourinho and Chelsea. That surely has to be excellent news.

It also seems as though he is picking up the language which can only help him communicate better on the pitch. Again with Costa, the players know him, they know what to expect from his movement and the where he wants the ball. There is a much better understanding compared to a year ago.

If we can keep Costa fit all season with no hamstring issues ( I understand he will get suspensions because that's just the nature of his game) then Costa could have a remarkable season once again.

Add the arrival of Radamel Falcao at the club and we could see Costa find much more space in and around the box to score goals. Remember when Andrey Shevchenko turned up? Didier Drogba scored 30 that season!

With any club and it's players, you want to see improvement from your team year on year. Chelsea had an amazing season but know they could and should have done better in the Champions League and FA Cup.

I would back Chelsea to do even better this term and if Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa can play even better, then I would say we have a real shout of winning plenty more trophies this season!
